Going in to Changing Us a decision had to be made. Should we slant the content and make a documentary that appeals to just the right or left side of politics or go with a neutral film? In a lot of ways I think the slander version would have been the easy way to go, at least from a marketing point of view. Everyone knows that controversy sells.
In the end however we made the decision to make a politically neutral film and I stand by that decision. It may have caused some smaller sales than if we went with a polarized version, but I feel that is a disrespect to the troops who have, and still are, serving in Iraq. The men and women in Iraq come from all spectrums of life and political affiliation, and ultimately that’s what our film was about, the troops. We couldn’t make a political film the represented all the troops.
So we may have made less money but we at Drifter feel we made a quality film that we aren’t ashamed to show veterans, or our mothers, and sometimes that’s the most important thing.
Do you agree with our decision? Let us know in the comments.
